This morning I headed out from Adam & Kim's around noonish. Traffic was pretty bad. I took the 5 down to the 55 to get home. And just about the time the the 55 got to the 405, the guy in front of me stopped quick. And I stopped quick, I was a bit worried but I didn't hit him. The guy behind me didn't have quite the same luck.
So guy behind me hits me, causing me to go forward into the car ahead of me. My rear bumper's pretty messed up (that guy's front was even worse), and I lost my front plate and got some scratches on the front (the car ahead only had scratches). Off to the side of the 55, and exchange information.
Guy ahead of me finished up faster and got going. As I was finishing with guy from behind, here comes the Highway Patrol. Yadda yadda, just finishing up exchange, got in our cars and left. No police report, no citations issued.
Dee had wanted to go to Mimi's Cafe when I got home, it put about a half hour kink into my arrival but we still went and got lunch. Got home, called the insurance company to report. They said a local claims adjuster would give me a call within two hours, and that was about 30 minutes ago. So we'll see how this goes.
I'm pretty sure I have rental coverage in my insurance. I've got collision & comprehensive coverage, but my deductible is around a grand. I'm not sure if it'll all be covered by the insurance of the guy who hit me, or if it'll be a split between his & my own.
A little while later, I continue writing after said call from the insurance company. Amazing how timing works like that sometimes. Anyway, they had me give a tape-recorded statement, and I stuck to what I did know and didn't say anything that I'm not sure of. Mainly, how fast traffic was flowing before the sudden slow-down. I'm thinking it was around 50, but I'm not sure so I just said I was going with traffic.
The agent has set up an appointment with an auto body shop that they deal with regularly. I'm gonna check them out, and probably use them unless I find anything negative about them. Also have a rental car set up (that little premium kicker finally pays off).
The local person said that, from my statement, it sounds like the driver who hit me will be the only at-fault driver, and this may mean that I won't have to pay anything (not even a deductible). So I hope that continues & holds out. Fortunately we do have the savings put together that I could cover my deductible, but it would be nicer if that doesn't have to happen.
Anyway, I'm OK and no one reported any injuries to me at the accident scene. I'm just a little shaken up.
