|12:43 pm - Weekend Recap|
Friday evening I wrapped up work around 5pm, ran home, grabbed Dee and various provisions for the weekend, and hit the road. Given our history with traffic on the 152 on long weekends, we opted to take the longer but less prone to backup route to the 5, going up the 680 to 580 and over.
As we were nearing the 580, oddly enough Ashante called to ask what was up. Our heading out of town sorta killed her line of questioning, oddly enough. *laughs* The weather was cooperative, although the 880 was slow right around our apartment and made me reconsider the trip for a bit.
Once we got on the 580 it was rather dark, so I wasn't sure when/if we hit the 5 until I saw the road markers were for the 5. Well, at least I knew I was in the right place, and I felt much better when we passed the 5/152 interchange. There were occasional showers, but nothing really significant or long-lasting.
We stopped at Harris Ranch for fuel and drinks, and I decided to try a Red Bull for the first time. It was a lot sweeter than I expected, with a bit of a fruit flavor. I thought I'd give one a shot while I was still feeling alert, and I certainly made it the rest of the way to LA without a problem. Of course, it's hard to know if the Red Bull helped at all, but then again I didn't get reflux either so I'm a happy camper.
We pulled up in front of Adam & Kim's around 11:30, and found Kim and Moth holding down the fort while Adam was running an errand. Got to watch some Katamari Damacy on the PS2, which I developed an addiction to over the weekend. It was around 2 I think when we called it a night and hit the hay.
Saturday was spent hanging out at Suzy's, where Dee and I met Tony, got to hang with Mike for a while too, and just got to catch up some over Bust-A-Move! I barely held my own, but it was fun anyway. Towards the afternoon Mike and Tony had to run, and Suzy, Dee, and I all ended up taking naps of various sorts. A lot more people dropped by later, and we all settled in to watch an anime flick - Nausicaa. I'll admit to fading in and out during the movie, but what I did catch certainly caught my eye so I guess I'll be seeing it again.
Sunday was the most laid-back day I've had in a while. Dee and I hauled Adam with us to Panera for lunch, and then we went back to Adam & Kim's to laze around, play video games, and basically accomplish nothing at all! Of course it wouldn't have been a complete day without Bill & his friend whose name I forget to come and hang out with us as well. Kim stopped for groceries on the way home from work, and Adam prepared quite the dinner.
On Monday, Dee and I hung out until noontime to go out with Suzy for lunch. Well, it's a good thing I called around 11am 'cause Suzy didn't remember our plans! *laughs* Fortunately it was easy to fix, and Adam decided to join us as well. Tony was going to come to lunch as well but traffic seemed to put the kibosh on that. I had suggested Korean BBQ, but the first place we went was closed for the holiday. Dee was feeling run down, but fortunately there was another BBQ place that we hit up instead. It was yummy, but all too soon the lunch hour was over, Suzy was dropped off at work again, and Dee and I were on the road home.
Getting out of LA was a pain. There was a minor mudslide on the north 405 just before it merged with the 5, which didn't slow us down much. However, in the grapevine, traffic was quite heavy at one point where a more significant mudslide had occurred a while back, where the road has been narrowed to 3 lanes each way to make room by the mess. I think it stole about an hour from us on the way home, but all told it wasn't that bad. The rain was pouring through the grapevine, but it was dry beyond there basically.
Traffic after the grapevine was a different matter. I got stuck about 4 different times behind a 55 MPH truck passing what seemed to be another 55 MPH truck. The 5 from the Grapevine to NorCal needs a third lane each way! We got in around 10pm last night and kicked back. Today is work - bleh - and a short week until the weekend.
So, that's the weekend in brief. I need more of these nice weekends. (Well, I need a job and a home in LA, first of all...)

Yah Red Bull has the caffeine alternative Guarana in it, which has never been too much source of acid for me either. Hate the taste though, plus it takes like 2 or 3 of em to get me really wired.

It has the caffeine, too, see my latest post. ;) It seems that in controlled amounts, and without the excess stress, it doesn't seem to bother Sam's stomach enough to cause reflux (yay!!!)
Sorry, I misphrased (or typed too lazily to say it correctly). Guarana is caffeine (or rather contains caffeine), but is not the same when consumed as the caffeine alkaloid pills or coffee (or soda, etc). It appears to be less acid-producing to be sure.

Oh, good, glad you're back online at home. I know how frustrating that is! We just take it so much for granted anymore that we can hop online and get directions, look up this or that, etc. I still need to go see what Bill's 'two words' were. ;)

Guarana, caffiene, and a lot of sugar. If there's something legal out there to keep you awake, I'm sure there's some of it in Red Bull, *laughs*.
Was awesome seeing you this weekend! Glad you got to meet Tony too! *huggles*

It was great getting to meet Tony, and great catching up with everyone! *huggles* The visits always feel too brief when I get down there.
