Then lisana and I hit the DMV for our California ID's. She thought that, being just before Noon on a Monday, it wouldn't be that bad. Well, we didn't get there just before Noon, but just after Noon (12:25), and it took two hours (!) for me to finish my ID. I never found a place to sit, so I was standing the entire time. I was not in a really pleasant mood as we left, and then I thought we could take surface streets back home.
So I go south, looking for familiar cross-streets, but nothing looks familiar. So I ask Lis to look it up in the Thomas guide and then she says to turn left on Adams, but there were too many cars in the way, I couldn't move over to turn, and I went past. I asked her for another route, and we turned on Atlanta. Then we passed by another street and she asked why I didn't turn. We got a lot of crossed signals on where to turn, but we eventually got back to Adams, and she said we should turn left onto Harbor to get home.
It didn't seem right, so I asked her if that was right, and she said it was. Then I looked at the map and realized that we needed to turn right. That just really set both of us off. It took us a good long time to cool off. I think we both did a lot of stuff to hurt each other, but I think we got everything out.
Lis has been under the weather, and seeming to be having a bad time out here. And I moved out here to make her happy. So it seemed to me like she was happier in Virginia, and that all this was for nothing, and I was feeling really down. She said she's happy to be here, and that it'll probably show more after she gets over this whole congestion/coughing/run-down thing. Hopefully it will.
It basically ruined the afternoon for doing anything really productive, though. We just came home and laid on the bed for a while. We headed out for dinner around 5ish (still don't have the all-important refrigerator for cooking at home... or keeping cool beverages at home... or keeping frozen meals at home). We went to Coco's, which I had never been to before. They called it a Southern-style Fried Chicken Salad, but, I'm sorry people, that wasn't true Southern-style: there were no croutons on the salad!
After that we went to the Irvine Spectrum Center and just walked around. We had intended to hit the Cold Stone Creamery there, but we missed it on our trip down the mall and settled for cookies from Mrs. Fields. Of course, on our way back to the car, we saw the Cold Stone store... right across from the Cingular and FYE stores, which probably attracted our attention on the first pass down the mall. Well, we know next time!
We hit Best Buy on the way back for a longer A/V cable to get my video games set up and a mat to put under Lis's desk. We also hit Target for an etagere (cabinet that goes over the toilet) to make up for the lack of a medicine cabinet in the master bathroom.
Anyway, that was our nutty day. Tomorrow we'll try and assemble the etagere while we wait for TV installation, and then... dunno what that afternoon will be, but hopefully we will head up north for a little Buffy Night action.
